Best time to Visit
The best time to visit Pawna Lake Camping is from October to May when the weather is pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities. But I feel you must avoid the rainy season as heavy rains may cause waterlogging & slippery terrain.
Altitude
The altitude of Pawna Lake is approximately 2133 feet (650 meters) above sea level.
How to Reach
- By Air: The nearest airport is Pune/Mumbai Airport. On reaching Pune/Mumbai you can take a private cab and reach Pawna lake camping.
- By Train: The nearest railway station is Lonavla or Kamshet from where you can take a private cab and reach Pawna lake camping.
- By Road: The distance from Pune to Pawna Lake is approximately 50 km, and it takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach by road. We started our journey from Pune in our personal car at 11AM and reached Pawna lake camping spot at around 1PM.
The distance from Mumbai to Pawna Lake is approximately 120 km, and it takes around 2.5 to 3.5 hours to reach by road.
Accommodation and Tariffs
The main attraction of Pawna lake camping is to stay in the tents. You can search in google and get a good number of contacts who arrange for the tent stay.
The charges are Rs.1500 per person which includes the evenings snacks (Oninon pakoda with tea/coffee) once you reach there, then barbecues (not unlimited, you need to pay for extra barbecues), unlimited dinner (veg/non-veg both), night stay in the tent (which is the exciting part of this trip) and the next day morning breakfast.
Please note that the boating is not done in Pawna lake. If you wish to do the boating you have to reach Malavandi lake/dam where the boating is done (Rs.250/person).
They have camps there also, must after staying in the tents beside Pawna lake you might not enjoy staying in the camps near Malavandi lake (Pawna lake to Malavandi lake is about 4.5Kms which will take 10mins to reach there from Pawna).
So before booking just call the vendor over phone and clarify where you want to stay either in Pawna or Malavandi. You can check with this vendor (8668322633) from where we had done the booking.
Detailed Itinerary For The Whole Trip (2 days 1 night)
Day1:
We reached Pawna lake camping site at 1PM (though the checkin time was at 4PM).
We roamed around the camp and enjoyed some games at the camp site.
At around 4-4:30PM some snacks (onion pakoda) with tea/coffee was provided. We enjoyed the sunset along with the snacks .
At 7:30PM the barbecues (limited) were provided. We started to heat the barbecues in the charcoal that was provided under the starlit sky along with some bonfire and music.
At 9:30 the dinner was served (unlimited – veg/non-veg).
After dinner we strolled in the camp beside the lake for sometime and then went to sleep in our tent. It was the first time we experienced sleeping in a tent.
Day2:
We Woke up next morning and freshened up. Also note that there would be common washrooms as you would be staying in tents.
We Had our breakfast and tea and checked out from Pawna lake camping site at 10AM.
After checking out we went to Malvandi lake where we did the boating and then left for Pune.
